About us

Our rapidly expanding, state-of-the-art Veterinary Hospital located in Livingston, between Edinburgh and Glasgow, is looking for a Neurology specific RVN to join our expanding Neurology team.

Veterinary Specialists Scotland (VSS) is a newly established, multi-disciplinary referral hospital that opened in October 2020. The clinic premises have been purpose built to deliver the highest standards of veterinary care, while also providing a beautiful and pleasant working environment.

The team’s core values are excellence in patient, client, colleague, and referring vet care, and we place a strong emphasis on team and collaborative working. We are looking for Veterinary Nurses who share our ethos to help make VSS a supportive, stimulating, and enjoyable place to practise veterinary medicine and surgery to the highest standard.

Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for a Neurology RVN to join us on a part time basis , working 20 hours per week. As the Neurology RVN you are involved with all aspects of procedures and nursing care of patients with varied neurological conditions, including traumatic brain injuries, inflammatory CNS conditions, seizures, and spinal injuries.

You will assist the neurologist with consultations, in-patient examinations, booking of diagnostic procedures, surgical and medical procedures, and discharge appointments. Maintain excellent lines of communication with the Hospital team leaders to ensure patient flow across the hospital is efficient, assess ability to accept any neurological emergencies and the triage of patients.

Responsibilities include excellent in-patient care including pre-op care and assessment, monitoring/recovery period, post op-care and intensive nursing care of patients. Monitor anaesthetics, especially for patients undergoing MRI scans and patients requiring advanced neurosurgical procedures, under supervision of the veterinary surgeon and the anaesthesia team.

The successful candidates will ideally have a good background in referral work, however this is not essential, any nurses who have at least 1 years worth of qualified experience will be fully supported with their step into referrals.

As well as the opportunity to help shape the future of veterinary referral care in Scotland, we offer a competitive salary and generous benefits package.
