Job Details

Are you looking to progress, follow your interests and develop your skills with the support of a friendly, experienced team? Then read on…

Filey Vets is an independent 5-vet small animal practice on the stunning North Yorkshire coast. We’ve been established for over 30 years and have a close-knit, long-standing team. Lauren started with Filey Vets as a locum and liked it so much that she became sole owner on April Fool’s Day, 2022 (no, we’re not joking!).

We are forward-thinking and always looking for ways to progress and grow the practice. We’re expanding our vet team so Lauren has more time to focus on developing the practice. We would love you to bring your ideas and enthusiasm and encourage you to make the role your own. We fully support career development, so if you’re looking to take on a certificate, this will be supported and funded, or if you have a particular area of interest, then we would be happy to invest in the necessary equipment and help you to build the service up.

Filey Veterinary Practice

“Filey Vets is a welcoming and friendly practice to work for. The whole team takes care of each other and works together to create a place where people look forward to going to work every day to give every client and pet the best experience and service they can.

The practice manager, Nik, looks out for everyone and makes sure the practice runs smoothly whilst the practice owner, Lauren, is passionate about the standard of care and building the practice to become a leading first opinion clinic in the area.

The work is varied and stimulating, and there are vets and nurses with various interests and strengths, so there is plenty of support for any case. There are good opportunities for growth with CPD, and certificates are encouraged and supported. One of the best perks of my position is how flexible it is; it has been almost bespoke and designed to suit my life and family needs and fits perfectly around my childcare so that being able to work alongside being a parent is not a source of stress. The North Yorkshire coast is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, and working at Filey Vets gives you a protected hour lunch every day to walk down to the beautiful beach and grab a coffee from one of many amazing local cafes or a soup and sandwich from the infamous Light Bites….!” Charley MRCVS

We are a supportive team with various interests, and we’re always happy to share our knowledge and expertise. Lauren has a passion for medicine, Leah loves surgery, and Emily enjoys all aspects of veterinary work. Both Charley and Lauren like dentals, so there’s always someone to help with that tricky extraction.

Lauren has completed the VetGDP Advisor course and is happy to mentor new graduates or less experienced vets. Leah has such a calm and relaxed manner during surgery and would offer so much support to a vet looking to build confidence with a particular procedure or hone their surgical skills.

We can offer you the clinical freedom to work up your cases with the support of our experienced team and without the need to worry about targets or KPIs. We have a loyal client base, and we’ve built great relationships with them, so luckily, we rarely have to deal with complaints (just look at our lovely Google reviews!).

Filey Veterinary Practice

We have an amazing nursing team of 3 RVNS and 4 ACAs led by our Head Nurse Kim. We have all the usual kit, including digital and dental x-ray, ultrasound and in-house lab. We have recently refurbished our cattery to provide a calm, stress-free environment for our feline friends and also plan to increase the number of consult rooms we have to support our growing team.

Our full-time vets work a 4-day week with just 1:5 Saturday mornings (9 am to 12.30 pm). We are happy to chat about part-time hours if you have other commitments to work around. There are no Sundays, bank holidays or out-of-hours. The practice closes at 6.30 pm, so your evenings and weekends are free to enjoy. We don’t schedule consults between 4 and 5, so there is always time to catch up, and we all leave on the dot.

We schedule our days so you will either be operating or consulting, giving you plenty of opportunities to develop your skills. The practice is closed between 1 pm and 2 pm, so you’ll always get a proper lunch break, where you can take advantage of our newly refurbished staff room.

Filey Veterinary Practice

We enjoy getting together socially, whether it's lunch at the practice, a night out for pizza and cocktails or enjoying the live music at the local pubs. Last summer, we visited the North Yorkshire Water Park at Wykeham to take on the “Wipeout” inflatable course, and for our Christmas celebrations, we visited Stepney Hill Farm Barn for a hog roast and a night of dancing, where John busted out all his best moves on the dancefloor!

We also enjoy getting involved with the Filey community, whether we’re talking to the children at the school or fundraising to support Active Filey, a fantastic group of volunteers that provide free sporting activities to the local community. We also collect donations at Christmas for the RNLI and Women’s Refuge.

Filey is surrounded by beautiful scenery and is ideal for anyone who enjoys being outdoors. Filey Beach has been voted number one in the Sunday Times’ list of the 50 Best British Beaches. There are lots of hiking and cycling paths to explore and water sports to enjoy locally, including coasteering, paddle boarding, kayaking and sailing, or if you’re feeling brave, you could join Kim on one of her early morning sea swims!  The North York Moors and Whitby are easily accessible in under an hour, and the city of York is just an hour away.

We are offering:

  • A salary of £35,000 to £60,000
  • Five weeks holiday, plus bank holidays
  • No Sundays, OOHs or bank holidays
  • CPD budget of £1500 and 5 days, with certificates fully supported and funded
  • Professional fees for RCVS and VDS paid
  • Visas sponsored
  • Employee Assistance Program

If you would like to know more about our plans for the future, then please call us for an informal chat or apply now.
