Fantastic opportunity for a Qualified Vet Nurse to be our Head of Animal Care at our Wildlife Rescue Centre!

About Us

RSPCA Oak and furrows is a wildlife rescue centre based in leigh nr. Cricklade. We have a fantastic team of wildlife care assistants which rescue and rehabilitate British wildlife. We are supported by a brilliant team of dedicated volunteers and help around 4000 animals per year.

The Role

We are currently looking to appoint a Head of Animal Care to join our team. This may be an excellent opportunity for a qualified veterinary nurse with a passion for UK wildlife, together with the skills to develop a team of wildlife assistants and volunteers to deliver high wildlife care welfare standards.

Working with local vets and drawing on your own veterinary knowledge and wildlife care experience, the Head of Animal Care will report to the Centre Manager and support them to develop and enforce standard operating procedures that embody RSPCA protocols and best practice for wildlife treatment, rehabilitation and release.

You will work closely with and build a strong working relationship with the Operational Supervisor who will oversee the delivery of these procedures on your non-working days. Together you will provide consistent guidance and discipline to the Wildlife Assistants and volunteers.

Successful Candidate

We are looking for a qualified veterinary nurse with at least · FDSC qualified/Level 3 in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent qualification with a passion for British wildlife care and welfare. An individual with strong leadership skills and great organisational skills.


  •  Veterinary: 3 years (preferred)
  •  Animal care: 4 years (preferred)
  •  Supervisory: 3 years (preferred)
  •  Organisational skills: 3 years (preferred)

Location: Swindon, Wiltshire: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required).

Salary: From £30,000 to £32,000

RSPCA North Wiltshire & Newbury District is a branch of the National RSPCA. In 2020 we acquired an established Wildlife Rescue Centre near Swindon.  The Centre cares for 3,500-4,000 animals a year ranging from fledglings to deer.  Since taking over the site we have invested much time and money on a comprehensive range of improvements to facilities and processes to bring us up to and exceed the exacting standards set by the RSPCA licencing team.
