Fantastic work-life balance with our independent and supportive practice

We are a 3-vet, happily independent, small animal practice based in Southminster, Essex, only 10 minutes from the pretty coastal town of Burnham-on-Crouch and just over an hour from Central London by train.

We have grown rapidly since we started in 2009, when Lindsey decided to open her own practice and do things a little differently than in her previous roles. We are now looking to expand our vet team to 4. Tierney joined us three years ago and is particularly interested in rabbits and small furries. Melinda worked as a Vet tech in America before graduating from the RVC in 2023. She is currently working through her VetGDP. We are supported by our 2 experienced RVNs, 2 SVNs, 3 receptionists and 2 Animal Care Assistants. We all look after each other, work hard, and have a giggle at the same time, but don’t just take our word for it; here’s what some of the team says about working here:

“I first came to Church View as a student in my final years of university, was offered a job, and have been here ever since! I felt instantly welcomed by the team and was so well supported through my first years as a vet. We all get on really well and still have a laugh even when it’s busy, which is what has kept me working here nearly 4 years on.” Tierney, BVSc MRCVS

“I’m relatively new to the team and find everyone so incredibly friendly, positive and supportive. The work-life balance really suits me! I was also signed up to the CVS new graduate program which has been beneficial to starting my career.” Melinda, BVetMed MRCVS

Church View Veterinary Clinic

“I joined Church View in 2018 for a 10-week student veterinary nurse placement. This turned into 5 years as a member of the team and three years as a qualified veterinary nurse. The whole team at Church View are not just my colleagues; they are my family and have supported me through every step of my journey and life. They are the reason I am the veterinary nurse I am today.” Lilly, RVN

We are passionate about our patients; we’re all huge animal lovers and enjoy building bonds with our lovely clients. As an independent practice, we have clinical freedom to make decisions based solely on the client's and animal's needs. For example, all our euthanasia’s are sedated first, and we would love someone to join the team who feels the same way about veterinary practice as we do and shares our compassion for animals.

We are always open to new ideas and work together to improve our services and patient care. We understand that mistakes can happen, so instead of having a blame culture, we have a unique and fun system where we are open about them and can learn from each one in a non-judgmental way and see how we can improve in those areas.

We have a great work-life balance. All our vets work a 4-day week, with the same day off each week and only 1:3 Saturday mornings. Plus, you will have a long weekend every 3 weeks in addition to your regular day off. We finish consulting at 6 pm, so we have time built in to deal with any emergencies at the end of the day, and we actually have proper lunch breaks! We are also happy to chat about part-time hours if you have other commitments to work around. Plus, we also have amazing holidays with over 6 weeks of annual leave.

Church View Veterinary Clinic

Lindsey, our head vet, has completed the VetGDP advisor training, so we are more than happy to support new graduates. She really enjoys teaching and mentoring less experienced vets, and we have a proven track record for looking after our new grads, whether providing hands-on support or simply chatting through a case. We have the flexibility in the diary to support you, including during surgery, and won’t let you fly solo until you’re fully ready. We also fully fund the 2-year CVS New Graduate Scheme for Independent Practices (or another new grad scheme, depending on your preference).

Whether you’re new to the profession or are looking to follow your interests and grow your skills, our team can offer lots of support. We see a huge variety of cases, and your career will develop rapidly with us. We have more than enough interesting cases to support a medical, surgical, ophthalmology or imaging certificate. We have great kit, including laparoscopy, sevoflurane for all ops, ultrasound and bronchoscopy.

We look after our own non-critical inpatients on a shared practice rota and 1:3 weekends, but our local Vets Now surgery covers all critical cases and new emergencies.

Outside work, we enjoy getting together and making the most of the local area. There’s plenty to do with the beautiful coastline and surrounding countryside to explore, and lots of outdoor activities like walking, cycling and water sports, including sailing and kayaking. Chelmsford is just 35 minutes away, and London is easily accessible for a weekend away, with trains to central London taking just over an hour.
