Emergency Vets 24/7

Are you ready for adventure?

Emergency Vets 24/7 is the only emergency centre in the north east of the Australian continent. Our hospital is just a stone’s throw from the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest and one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef.

Sir David Attenborough once described the Daintree Rainforest as “the most extraordinary place on earth”. He said “It has, for the naturalist, everything. It has an amazing rainforest, which is quite unlike any other rainforest in the world. Down on the coast, it has the Great Barrier Reef . . . so that’s the place for me.”

Perhaps it’s time to embark on an adventure, and see if it’s the place for you, too?

If you:

Have passion for great veterinary care

Would like to work in a genuinely friendly and happy team

Are ready to revitalise your time off work... even if you’re tired...

... we’d like to chat to you!

Things you should know about us:

We have 35 staff, and we are preparing to add our 9th permanent veterinary surgeon to the team. We are not understaffed, and you won’t be landing in a chaotic clinic. We’re simply developing, and you will have plenty of support from qualified nurses, animal assistants, receptionists and our approachable, proactive management crew who know when to let your get on with your job. We love our team, and we celebrate the diversity and experience brought by every staff member.

Emergency Vets 24/7

Our hospital is custom-built and specifically designed for smooth emergency workflow. It has all the equipment you would expect like a full lab, DR 100-micron x-ray, theatre suite, ultrasound, isolation and seizure ward. We’ve also got some extras that you might not expect, like the-zero gravity massage chair in the staff room.

If you’re an experienced emergency clinician, get in touch to hear more about this role. If you haven’t got specific emergency experience, we don’t see that as a roadblock. Drop us a line, and you will hear how we provide training in lifesaving local emergency medicine from snake bites to cane toad toxicity to paralysis ticks and beyond. Plenty of our staff have made a successful transition from general practice to emergency.

We’re happy to provide you with references from our staff.

Working in Australia is “nicer”

Our senior veterinarian is from the UK and has worked in both countries. He has been known to say that he finds being a veterinarian in Australia much more pleasant. Australian clients, on the whole, understand that veterinary and medical care costs money, and that makes half the job a lot easier!

If you have a UK veterinary degree, there are no additional exams required to work in Australia, and we will happily support the right applicant with visa sponsorship and advice on where the best coffee, ice cream, hiking and snorkelling is.

Take this opportunity to fall in love with being a vet, all over again.

Just one little email could set you up for the most incredible adventure!

Cairns Emergency Vets 24/7 is open for emergencies. We aren’t on call. Our hospital is open and manned by trained vets and nurses, every hour, of every day. In fact, we’re the only 24/7 animal hospital in FNQ and we’re proud to care for animals and their owners, from across the city and region.

Our team are here for those unexpected events. We concentrate on emergency and critical care, rather than routine procedures like vaccinations and other preventatives, such as tick prevention, heart worm treatments and other routine appointments. So please see your regular vet for those requirements.

We work in collaboration with a range of Cairns’ GP vets to provide after hours service and care, as well as support with overflow appointments, during peak periods. So, if you can’t get in to see them or want to be seen straight away, we’re always here.
