Looking for a great work balance and career satisfaction in an independent practice in Kent? At Priory Lodge, our full-time vets work just 32 hours over a 4-day week.
Our aim at Priory Lodge Vets is to provide professional and up-to-date veterinary care for our clients and their pets. We want to keep improving our service and to retain and inspire the wonderful team of people who make this such a happy place to work.
We are a very experienced team of 6 vets and a varied caseload. We encourage every one of our veterinary team to develop and grow through coaching, CPD and the opportunity to move your career in the direction you’re interested in. Our facilities and the knowledge we have in the team mean we can help you to follow any clinical path you desire.
- Teamwork - We find that when we all pull together and support one another, we achieve the best outcomes.
- Empathy - We do our utmost to understand our clients’ and pets’ individual needs. The same applies to our team!
- Clinical excellence - We are proud of our clinical abilities and the professional care we provide for our patients.
- Ethical care - We aim to act in the best interests of our patients while respecting our client’s wishes.
Dirk performs the majority of the more complicated soft tissue procedures as well as orthopaedic surgeries. Abby enjoys all aspects of medicine and especially loves working up complicated medical cases. Both Abby and Allie have certificates in small animal medicine, and Allie has lots of experience in exotics and wildlife. Ruth enjoys dermatology and behaviour. Nicola and Hermione are both passionate about animal welfare.
We have recently joined forces with Pennard Vet Group and are proud to announce we are employee-owned. Doing this ensures our long-term future as an independent practice. As well as the facilities and expertise at Priory Lodge, now we also benefit from the equipment and knowledge within the Pennard’s team, with many vets with certificates and further qualifications throughout Pennards, and our mentoring system means that you can benefit directly from that experience.
Pennard Vets holds a unique position in the veterinary world as the world’s largest employee-owned vet group. The concept of being employee-owned is not a new one, many people know that John Lewis Partnership is owned by its employees; well, Pennard Vets are just like that. There is no financial buy-in, but the majority of the practice’s shares are held in an employee-owned trust, which means everyone has a voice and can feel part of something special and share in our success. It gives every team member the opportunity to influence the decisions we make for the future of our practice. What’s more, they have founded the British Veterinary Employee-Owned Association to empower more practices to follow our lead.
Our vets work a 4-day week (32 hours) plus a 1:3 share of the Saturday morning rota. Our out-of-hours are manned by the dedicated night team at Pennards Sevenoaks practice, so there are no Sundays or Bank Holidays to work.
Our independence allows us to be adaptable and flexible. This benefits our team as we are a well-managed company, not bound by rules made by others, who treat everyone as an individual. We pride ourselves on being flexible and always try to accommodate everyone’s requirements in terms of working hours and holidays.
We schedule regular lunch and learn CPD sessions in our meeting room, enjoy celebrating birthdays and general achievements at work, and every now and again, Elaine, our practice manager, organises a bake-off where we can all take part and vote for the winner!
Out of work, we always hold a big Christmas celebration– in previous years, we’ve done West End theatre and supper, cocktail masterclasses in Hoxton and also an indoor mini golf and cocktail event. We have a summer BBQ and will arrange ad hoc suppers/drinks out locally every few months. Lots of our team also have dogs and regularly go dog walking together.
Role and Salary
Ideally, we’d love a vet with some experience and with an interest in surgery, but, more importantly, we are looking for someone who fits in with our happy team. This is initially a 12-month maternity role but can become a permanent role within the Pennard’s group. The salary is from £42,000 to £56,000 (for a 32-hour week plus 1:3 Saturday mornings). For senior vets and certificate holders, we have higher salary bands, but this role would suit someone with some experience who is looking to develop their skills rather than a senior role.

Tonbridge is a very attractive town, with great restaurants, bars and excellent schools. It’s a beautiful part of the country with lots of walks and historic places of interest. We are also really well placed for travel; central London is less than 45 minutes by train; Eurotunnel, Gatwick and Heathrow airports are less than an hour’s drive away, and it’s less than an hour to the Kent coast.
During the past five years, we have built an amazing team and are truly proud of what the practice continues to achieve. We would love you to come and join us for the next chapter of our journey. Please call for an informal chat or apply now.
