Experienced Equine Ambulatory Vet
Sussex Equine Hospital, Ashington
Salary for the role is discretionary depending on experience

Here at Sussex Equine Hospital, we are looking for a new Associate to join our Ambulatory team. We see a large and varied caseload including racehorses, high-level competition horses, competitive amateurs, pleasure horses and breeding stock, which will allow you to develop and grow a client base in your areas of interest.

In addition to providing routine day-to-day and emergency care, the ideal candidate will be confident in the diagnosis and treatment of lameness (nerve blocks, medicating joints/backs/necks), endoscopy (guttural pouch lavage), dentistry (routine, wolf tooth removal), radiology and interpretation, ultrasonography (distal limb, joints, guided joint injections), castrations and pre-purchase examinations. Attention to detail, excellent communication skills and good record-keeping are essential.

The practice is also responsible for veterinary cover at 4 racecourses (national hunt and flat racing) therefore you will need to either have or be able to complete the ARVS casualty management seminar so you can participate in the racing duty rota. We also provide veterinary attendance at various local point-to-points, show jumping, dressage, and eventing competitions throughout the year.

Typically, this is a full-time role working 40 hours Monday – Friday, however, we are happy to discuss part-time during the standard working week. The position will require participation in the out-of-hours rota which is 1in6 (full participation will be required if working part-time).

About Sussex Equine Hospital

You will be supported by an RCVS Tier 3 accredited hospital facility providing all routine and emergency surgical, medical and dentistry requirements. Diagnostic and treatment modalities include radiography (in-house and 2 mobile digital machines), ultrasonography, laser (therapeutic and surgical), shockwave, nuclear scintigraphy, CT, MRI, laparoscopy and an in-house laboratory. We are nestled in a beautiful location in Sussex, offering rolling countryside with masses of beautiful country walks in the area, and the seaside is just 20 miles away. We have great city links being close to Worthing and Brighton and quick and accessible train links to London to change up the scenery when and if needed.
Here at Sussex Equine Hospital, we have a total of 27 stables, an isolation block and Repro/Bonescan blocks. We have some excellent equipment, naming a couple, MRI and CT!

We also sponsor local events regularly to support local businesses and provide veterinary cover at many horse events throughout the calendar year.
