Experienced Equine Stud Vet 
Sussex Equine Hospital 
Competitive Salary depending on experience

We are looking for a skilled Stud Vet to join our highly experienced stud team and deliver all aspects of reproduction work. Our team provide artificial insemination with chilled and frozen semen, embryo transfer and ovum pick up and some Thoroughbred services. Mares are boarded in the hospital, managed at local studs or private yards. The hospital is equipped with intensive care foal units and an in-house laboratory. The successful candidate will need to be motivated, confident and an excellent communicator.

Your Shift Pattern

Our working day typically consists of 5 days a week Monday to Friday plus every Saturday during the stud season. Out-of-hours rota runs from 1st January until 31st August. This is currently a 1:4 Rota and 1 weekday night per week. We provide the option for either a short-term (2024 stud season) or a permanent position starting early 2024.

You will be working out of our RCVS Tier 3 state-of-the-art purpose-built, referral hospital which is renowned for providing patients and clients with the best standard of Equine health care. With the support of RCVS Europe and America, we board specialists in medicine, surgery, and stud medicine. Here at Sussex Equine Hospital, we have 27 stables, an isolation block and Repro/Bonecan blocks. We have excellent equipment, including MRI and CT. We excel in medical workups and treatment and cover both minor and major surgeries, allowing for excellent clinical exposure.
We are nestled in a beautiful location in sunny Sussex, offering rolling countryside with masses of beautiful country walks. The seaside is just 20 miles away. We have great city links being close to Worthing and Brighton and quick and accessible train links to London to change up the scenery when and if needed. 

About the Team and Culture

We are made up of specialist surgeons, internal medicine specialists, repro specialists and sports medicine specialists. A highly skilled team provides ample insight into various specialisms and support should you wish to pursue one. We also have a great team of nurses, student nurses, equine care assistants and grooms. We have excellent support on hand via our pharmacy team, scientific officers, clinic supervisor, interns, resident and support staff and ambulatory vets. We do get involved in the local community; we hold a bi-yearly open day where we collect donations for a charity as voted by the staff. We also sponsor local events and provide veterinary cover where required. We have built a wonderful team ethos and culture at Sussex Equine and truly enjoy each other’s company, having regular staff socials allowing us all to get together outside of the working day.

The Sussex Equine Hospital was founded in 1951, it was formerly known as the Arundel Equine Hospital. The hospital moved from Arundel to Ashington in July 2017. The brand new, state of the art, purpose built facilities allow us to provide our patients and clients with the best standards of equine veterinary health care.

The practice comprises 20 dedicated equine vets all with interests in different equine veterinary disciplines, supported by a large team of nurses, grooms and office staff. Our aim is to provide excellence in equine veterinary practice, made possible by vets that care passionately about their patients and provide a unique service tailored to each individual client’s needs.

The Sussex Equine Hospital provides ambulatory equine veterinary services throughout East and West Sussex, and into Surrey and Hampshire. We care for all types of equine patients from elite sport and racehorses to children’s ponies. The hospital also accepts referral cases from all over the south of England and the ambulatory vets regularly perform vettings throughout Europe.
