Come and join our amazing 20-vet team in our stunning new hospital where you’ll find everything you need to achieve the career you always hoped for….

We’re incredibly proud to have opened the doors of our brand-new, state-of-the-art small animal hospital in November 2022, which has since been nominated for a practice design award with the British Veterinary Hospitals Association 2023 Design Awards. It’s an amazing milestone for us as a team, our patients, and their owners.

We’re an independent 20-vet mixed practice based in beautiful East Yorkshire and we’re looking to expand our team of small animal vets.

We strongly believe in providing a happy and safe workplace where everyone feels supported and knows their work-life balance is valued. Lucy, one of our directors, says “We are not that sort of practice where you must come in at 8.30am and leave at 6.30pm and that's what we all should do. Because it's not the way it works anymore. Everyone has commitments outside of work so we’re family-friendly and mega-flexible with our rota.”

We are happy to support your interests and are really quite unique in the way we can tailor our rota to your individual needs; if you have a passion for inpatient care, dentals, or prefer consulting to surgery, we will make sure you have the shifts and caseload to reflect this. We have three types of shifts; an inpatient shift, an operating shift, and a consulting shift, and you can either have a mix of these throughout the week or we can chat about a bespoke shift pattern concentrating on the type of work that interests you.

Aldgate Veterinary PracticeOur four directors – David, Lucy, Gill, and Giles  – all have active clinical roles within the practice and are passionate and motivated to keep driving the practice forward. Our purpose-built hospital has amazing facilities including a CT scanner, an ultrasound and endoscopy room, 3 surgical theatres – with dedicated laparoscopic and orthopaedic theatres, and our dental suite with dental X-ray. We also have a hydrotherapy pool and underwater treadmill and offer an in-house rehabilitation and pain management service providing laser therapy, acupuncture, and physiotherapy for pain relief and muscle maintenance.

We’re very keen to develop our team and believe in investing in their skills and development including support and funding for certificates and further qualifications. We currently have certificate holders in diagnostic imaging and small animal practice, along with vets undertaking certificates in surgery, medicine, and diagnostic imaging, as well as Rayana who leads our rehabilitation service and is working towards a Post Graduate Diploma in veterinary physiotherapy. We also benefit from the expertise of a visiting orthopaedic consultant, allowing us to keep the vast majority of our orthopaedic work in-house.

Josh originally joined us as a student and had been with us for 6 years before recently moving on to take an internship in London. This is what he had to say about his time with us:

“I started at Aldgate as a new graduate, had been there for 6 years and thoroughly enjoyed it. The directors have given me amazing support and guidance over the years, always had my back, helped me develop professionally, and really looked out for me. I have had many great experiences, from that first cow caesarean to stitching up an ostrich, and really got to be a close part of the community. I have grown close with the amazing team, becoming like a second family. The practice has grown and progressed lots recently, always with the aim of bettering patient care. I could not have asked for a better first job.Josh MRCVS

Aldgate Veterinary PracticeOur full-time vets work a 4-day week with a fixed day off but we’re happy to design a rota to suit your needs. We have vets that work full-time hours over 3 days and some who need to be out the door by 3pm each day, so if you have other commitments or school hours to work around then please call us for a chat about the options available. There are no routine nights with this role as we have our own dedicated night team of vets and nurses. Our daytime weekend rota is currently 1:4 although we are working towards making this 1:5. You’ll also have 2 days off following a weekend worked, so you only have to work a 2-day week after a weekend.  The whole team helps out with the Saturdays at our Driffield clinic which works out as just 4 Saturday mornings a year (8.30am – 12.30pm).

We always make sure you get a proper lunch break, where you can enjoy a cuppa on the practice balcony (not many practices can boast about a balcony!). We have admin time scheduled in the diary and a dedicated office upstairs for you to use as you catch up on paperwork and make phone calls. We also have a meeting room that allows us to offer regular in-house CPD.

Despite our continued growth which has taken us to a team of 81, we strive to maintain a working family environment where we all support one another. Every member of the team matters and your weekend plans or how your kids are getting on in school is just as important to us as your career development. We are also accredited by the Living Wage Foundation and pay all of our team the Living Wage.

Fundraising is important to the whole team; we pick a charity close to our hearts every year. This year we are raising much-needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. In April we took part in a 5-mile Muddy run and challenged ourselves to run our own ‘London Marathon’ with the whole team taking turns to complete a 26.2-mile run on a treadmill at the practice. We also have a sponsored bike ride, beach clean, a 10k run, and a cake bake in the pipeline!

Aldgate Veterinary PracticeThe practice is situated in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds, offering the best of all worlds with both rural and coastal activities on your doorstep and the bustle of cities York and Hull close by.

We are offering:

  • Salary of £33,000 - £70,000
  • 23 days holiday, plus bank holidays (based on a 4-day week)
  • CPD encouraged, with certificates supported and funded, including travel and accommodation if required
  • Professional fees paid for RCVS, VDS, and BVA
  • Potential for partnership long term
  • Private health insurance
  • Company pension

If this sounds like the role you’ve been looking for and you’d like to be part of our continuing journey, we’d love to hear from you. Please call for an informal chat or just apply now!

Company

Aldgate Vets is an independently owned practice with a team of highly experienced veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses and reception staff based across our sites in Bridlington and Driffield.

Our ambition is to provide the best in preventative, diagnostic and emergency care whether it’s to small animals, horses or farm animals. We also believe strongly in being an excellent employer, providing a happy and safe place to work, and investing in the skills and qualifications of our wonderful team.

The practice evolved from the first two veterinary practices established in Driffield, both with roots going back to the 1940s.  Since then we have grown into a 16 vet, two centre practice, offering a comprehensive 24-hour call-out service to pets, farm animals and horses.

As the only remaining independent, non-corporate practice in Driffield and Bridlington, our aim is to continue the tradition of a high standard of care in a compassionate and down-to-earth manner. Our four current directors – David Smith, Lucy Butler, Gill Bailey and Giles Moore – all have active clinical roles within the practice and live within local communities. They are supported by an experienced and compassionate team of vets, nurses, reception and admin staff.
