Are you looking to take your career to the next level? At Anglesey Pet Clinic, you can enjoy being part of a supportive team with an outstanding work-life balance that gives you time to explore the stunning beaches and mountains on your doorstep…
The Anglesey Pet Clinic is the only independent practice on the Isle of Anglesey. James opened the clinic in 2007 and has been looking after the small animals of Anglesey ever since. Having spent a short time under the corporate umbrella, James is now back in the driver’s seat and is keen to expand our vet team and drive the practice forward.
James really loves being a vet and credits his wonderful patients with causing the laughter lines around his eyes! With over 20 years of experience, and as a surgery certificate holder, he undertakes advanced surgeries, including BOAS, lung lobectomies, conjunctival grafts and orthopaedics like TTAs, hip toggles and lateral condyle fracture repairs, meaning we can keep the majority of cases in-house without the need for referral. James enjoys mentoring and sharing his passion for surgery, so if you’re interested in advancing your surgical skills to the next level, this is the perfect place for you, especially if you love the outdoors. James likes to spend his spare time either in/on the sea or the mountains, and he makes the most of his lunch hour by taking the five-minute journey to the beach for a quick swim.
Whether you’re a new grad just starting out in practice or a more experienced vet looking to follow your interests, develop your skills, or take on a certificate, we will absolutely support your career progression. We’re completing the VetGDP Advisor course and would happily enrol you on the VetShare New Graduate programme.
“I joined Anglesey Pet Clinic as a new graduate shortly after finishing university. James is a remarkable mentor and a great teacher. I found the team here to be supportive, friendly and caring, which made it the ideal place to learn and develop my skills. 13 years into my career, and I have this lovely practice on the beautiful north coast of Wales to thank for my confidence and success as a Veterinary Professional.” Dinali MRCVS
We have regular clinical meetings to discuss cases and any issues, and we’re always open to new ideas and input on improving the clinic. We encourage CPD to keep us all updated with new techniques and actively promote attendance on courses, conferences, and webinars to help develop your skills. This year alone, vets have attended the BSAVA congress, a practical 5-day ultrasound course, various one-day CPD sessions at nearby referral hospitals, and numerous online lectures. And still to come is our attendance at the London Vet Show and the VetsNow Congress in November. We also hold regular in-house CPD and have an extensive library of books, journals and online resources.
We have all the usual kit, including digital and dental X-ray, our new Imotech MyLab X7 ultrasound machine, video broncho/rhino/endoscopy, Tonopen, slit lamp, and a full IDEXX lab, including urine analyser. We are also happy to invest in any kit to support your interests.
We have a fantastic support team, who are essential in keeping our day running smoothly.
“I first came to the Anglesey Pet Clinic when I was studying for my Animal Management NVQ at a nearby college. I subsequently became an auxiliary nursing assistant and gradually worked my way up to Practice Manager. I feel that I have got to know the veterinary business from all angles and still cannot imagine a more exciting profession to be in! Our team is energetic and supportive, and we are proud to serve our clients as the only independent practice on Anglesey.” Ashleigh
Our vets work a 4-day week (9 am – 6.30 pm), with a fixed day off. We have dedicated operating or consulting days, so there will be plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and see your cases through. We have a dedicated lunch break between 1-2 pm, and you will have the freedom to manage your diary to catch up on admin or make phone calls. Our Saturday rota is just 1:3 mornings only (9 am - 1 pm), and our OOHs are outsourced to Vets Now in Colwyn Bay.
There is so much to do here that there’s always someone organising a get-together, whether heading out on a dog walk or watching a rugby match in the local pub. We also have our annual Christmas party and get involved with the local community when we hold open days or when the team take part in talks at the local primary school.
Anglesey is a stunning area with unspoilt coastlines and miles of scenic walks along the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path and cycle paths. It’s ideal for those who love the outdoors with activities like paddle boarding, kayaking, diving, cycling, mountain biking, and so much more. It's also just 45 minutes from the mountains of Snowdonia, where you can enjoy rock climbing, fell running, mountain biking, hiking, and for adrenalin junkies, there is ziplining! In addition to the lovely countryside, Anglesey offers good-value housing and excellent travel links to London, Liverpool, Manchester and Ireland.
