Regulatory Veterinary Surgeon Vacancies x 3

The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) is the governing body for licensed greyhound racing in England, Scotland and Wales. As well as overseeing Stadia and the running of each race and trial, we are responsible for regulating the welfare and care of all racing greyhounds, from registration to retirement.

Welfare is of the upmost importance and the top priority for the GBGB, as reflected in the recently published 5 year Welfare Strategy (https://www.gbgb.org.uk/welfare-care/commitment-to-care/) which covers all stages of a racing greyhound’s life.  To support the delivery of the Welfare Strategy and the GBGB’s commitment to optimising greyhound welfare, the GBGB has created five new Regional Regulatory Veterinary Surgeon roles.

We still require Regulatory Veterinary Surgeons to cover three geographical regions: The Southeast (including London), the Southwest/West Midlands and the East Midlands/East Anglia,

The Regional Regulatory Veterinary Surgeons will report to the Veterinary Executive. Their functions will include:

  • Upholding the GBGB’s Rules of Racing in matters relating directly and indirectly to greyhound welfare. Acting as a point of reference and support for Track Veterinary Surgeons in respect of their regulatory functions. Working closely with and supporting the field staff of Stipendiary Stewards, both at tracks and at trainers’ residential kennels. Conducting annual veterinary kennel inspections at trainers’ residential kennels.

Candidates will be Members or Fellows of the RCVS.  You must have broad clinical skills and a minimum of two years’ experience working in veterinary practice.  A post graduate qualification in animal welfare or other relevant discipline would be desirable. Experience of working in animal sports or with an animal welfare charity would also be desirable.

The position will involve travel and independent working and therefore candidates must be able to work unsupervised and hold a clean and valid driving licence. Candidates must also be prepared to work flexibly and outside of usual working hours when required to do so.

This is a full time, non-clinical position and will be field based.

For a job description, requirements, and person specification, please contact Zoë Brown.

To apply for this position, please email a copy of your CV, together with a covering letter detailing which area you are applying for and how you fit the criteria specification to Zoë Brown, HR Manager, at zoe.brown@gbgb.org.uk

GBGB is an equal opportunities employer
