Opportunity at Speyside vets

An exciting opportunity for a committed Veterinary Surgeon has arisen at Speyside Vets. We're looking to welcome a passionate individual to join our team, ideally in a mixed role, located at the Aberlour Veterinary Centre (our large animal base). Our status as a truly mixed practice (approximately 70% small animal, 15% farm, and 15% equine) means your role with us can be very diverse, reflecting our commitment to versatility, or tailored to your preferences. Additionally, our small animal-only practice at our Fochabers Vet Surgery can accommodate those who prefer strictly companion animal work.

What Sets Us Apart

•    We take pride in our in-house small animal surgical capabilities, including orthopaedic procedures
•    Our progressive approach to large animal care includes comprehensive health planning with our farmers
•    Equine work at Speyside is set to a high first-opinion standard, bolstered by our advanced DR x-ray and video endoscope
•    Our fantastic nursing and support teams consistently go the extra mile for their clients and colleagues
•    We foster a culture where everyone is eager to pitch in– vets included—and there is always plenty of tea available!

Rota Patterns and Out of Hours Commitment

We understand that achieving a work-life balance is pivotal for personal and professional well-being. To that end we offer flexible rota patterns and working hours for the right candidate, however, a share of the out-of-hours rota is a must. Our team takes pride in managing our OOH services in-house—a commitment highly valued and respected by our clients. To ensure sustainability, we're working towards a 1 in 5 contribution in the long term, with our new vet helping us reach a 2 in 9 ratio initially. We always have two vets on call OOH to provide support, and the rota is arranged so no one finds themselves in an unreasonable situation. Our nurses triage phone calls efficiently and are always ready to assist when needed.

About Speyside and Our Practice

•    We operate from two branches: our mixed site at Aberlour and our small animal-only site at Fochabers.
•    Both sites boast excellent facilities, including biochem/haematology, CR x-ray (including dental x-ray), and high-quality imaging equipment.
•    Speyside offers an exceptional living environment, with access to local amenities and easy reach to city life (Inverness and Aberdeen airports are an hour away).
•    The area is brimming with opportunities for hobbies and outdoor activities, with members of our team participating in pursuits from badminton to flyball, rugby to Munro climbing, and yoga.
•    Dog lovers will revel in the fantastic dog walking opportunities.

Our Team

Our team comprises 9 FTE veterinary surgeons, 5 RVNs, a Practice Manager at each site, and 4 additional support staff. We pride ourselves on our collaborative approach, where taking ownership of your cases is encouraged, and clinical discussions and colleague support are highly valued.
