Are you looking for a practice where you can make a difference? Not just to your patients but to the world beyond the practice door?

About Small World Vet Centre

We are a progressive, ethical, independent SA practice set in the thriving village of Liphook in East Hampshire and we have great reputation for first class patient care.

We take pride in having a really positive atmosphere for our team and our patients- so you'll feel comfortable working here knowing that it won't only benefit you but also the animals who come through our doors every day too!

As part of our commitment to providing the best care, we are a ISFM Silver 'Cat Friendly Practice’ and our separate cat ward and waiting room is loved by our clients. We are also an RWAF Silver 'Rabbit Friendly Practice', as well as a BBVA 'Bee Friendly Practice', which is a nod towards our environmental mission. We are committed to making a genuinely positive impact to our environment, funding habitat regeneration and promoting biodiversity. We use a green energy supplier and actively work to reduce our consumption of resources and waste, working towards Silver accreditation with Investors in the Environment, and committed to achieving ‘net zero’ before 2030 as part of the UN ‘Race to Zero’ initiative. As a truly independent practice we have complete freedom to use our imaginations, stretch our ambitions, and empower team members and clients to make a real difference. We could achieve so much more with your help.

Small World Vet Centre Our practice was designed to provide a comfortable workspace, with a/c and fresh air ventilation throughout, internal windows to maximise natural light (no prep room dungeon!) and a lay-out that optimises workflow from consultation rooms and wards to prep and theatre. We also have great kit including ultrasound, multiparameter and we have dental x-ray on the way soon.

We have visiting orthopaedic specialists and we also work with Hart Wildlife Rescue to achieve the best outcomes for wildlife casualties, which are afforded the same level of treatment as our pet patients.

About our team

We have a lovely, supportive team of 2 vets, 3 RVNs and 2 receptionists, who have a range of experience and are enjoy working together to provide the best care for our patients. Our Head Nurse Amy started her career as a Saturday assistant in a small practice in west Sussex before qualifying as an RVN. Amy joined us in 2019 having worked in both small animal practices and a busy referral centre and was drawn by our independent status and focus on sustainability. Steph joined us in 2017 and has experience working in practices including at the Blue Cross Animal Hospital and also volunteered at an animal rehab centre in South Africa. Hayley has worked in a range of roles since qualifying including in practice, as well as volunteering in wildlife rehabilitation, zoos and animal charities.

What our team say about working at Small World Vet Centre

" We are a warm, welcoming, and fun team. Our shared passion for animals is fundamentally clear as is our aim to clean up the planet. Although we are a small practice we are part of a big community, and all have huge animal biased hearts" Hayley RVN

"I started off working here as a work experience and their happiness and joy in their work made me want to be a part of the team. Roll on a couple of years later and I'm in!" Millie Receptionist

"All our staff are friendly; the practice is modern. I enjoy working here because of the closeness of the team and how we are more than work colleagues - we are friends" Steph RVN

" We have fun! Tea and laughing helps us get through the tougher days and everyone will pitch in to help where needed. We all end up meeting out of work for dinner, drinks, cinema outings, walks, visiting local attractions. There is so much to do in the surrounding area, and I feel it makes us a better team. " Amy RVN

"Small World Vet Centre is a proudly independent, progressive, forward thinking small animal practice located in a beautiful corner of Hampshire, providing a high quality and very personal service to their loyal client base. The staff are highly skilled, supportive and contribute to a fantastic team atmosphere. The practice has been thoughtfully laid out, has separate dog and cat waiting rooms and kennel areas, and is remarkably well equipped for a small practice. Clinical freedom is encouraged, as is the sharing of knowledge and experience’’ Beth MRCVS (one of our previous vets)

Small World Vet CentreAbout the role

We are about to expand our veterinary team and start some exciting new projects, so we would love another RVN to join us. Ideally this would a full-time role of 40 hours per week, with 1:4 Saturday mornings only (9am -12pm) but if you have other commitments or are looking for a part-time role, we would love to speak to you about the options available.

You will be able to use all your nursing capabilities and will also have the opportunity to expand your knowledge, improve your skills and pursue any areas of special interest.

Our emergency out-of-hours are seen by a dedicated provider, but we occasionally look after our own in-patients at the practice for their comfort and continuity of care. Our in-patient care is shared equally on a rota and will include one weeknight each week. However, our wards are nearly always blissfully empty at the end of the day, and we try to keep them that way. You will receive a retainer for being on-call for inpatients, plus an enhanced hourly rate for any time worked outside of opening hours.

All about the social side

Beth described our last lock-down Christmas get-together (baking ‘bannock’ over an open fire in a wood) as her best ever, but she missed our latest team outing: dinner at a local pub and then out into the night with flasks and camping chairs to meet a guest expert to do some moth trapping (over 70 species identified…plus a toad, two woodcock and a roe deer).  We even have free cinema tickets for all our team at our local independent cinema.

What is the local area like?

Liphook itself is a vibrant place, with great pubs and restaurants. The station is just yards away to catch a train to London or Portsmouth, and the beautiful South Downs National Park is on your doorstep. We even have our own independent cinema for which we have a practice membership to provide free tickets for all the team.

Small World Vet Centre What are we offering?

  • Salary of £27,000 up to £34,000
  • CPD generously funded including certificates
  • Professional fees for RCVS, Veterinary Defence Society and BVNA paid for, along with practice ISFM membership
  • AXA Private medical insurance.
  • Free cinema tickets
  • Short-term accommodation available during relocation

If you are enthusiastic about your vocation, take pride in your work and enjoy job satisfaction, we could be the perfect fit for you. Call us now for an informal chat, come and visit us - we'll be happy to show you round or just apply now!

Company

Welcome to Small World Vet Centre! We are an independent vet practice in Liphook, Hampshire, providing complete care for all your pets in one location. In fact, we are the ONLY independent, locally owned, full-service practice in the area.

Our Practice

The building had been empty for a decade and had become dilapidated, with a lonely house-martin nesting in the eaves as the only resident, but this meant we had a blank canvas.

The bespoke design ensures a comfortable workspace, with a/c and fresh air ventilation throughout, internal windows to maximise natural light (no prep room dungeon) and a layout that optimises workflow from consultation rooms and wards to prep and theatre.

ISFM accreditation was a priority from the start and with separate cat and dog wards and waiting rooms, we are the only practice locally to be awarded Silver ‘Cat-Friendly Practice’ status. We are also officially ‘Rabbit Friendly’ (Silver, RWAF) and BBVA ‘Bee Friendly’ (no bee experience required). Our dogs love coming here too! We work with Hart Wildlife Rescue to achieve the best outcomes for wildlife casualties, which are afforded the same level of treatment as our pet patients.

Our patients and our team always come first but, as members of the scientific community, trusted by the public, we believe our obligations extend beyond the practice door. We use a green energy supplier and actively work to reduce our consumption of resources and waste, working towards Silver accreditation with Investors in the Environment, and committed to achieving ‘net zero’ before 2030 as part of the UN ‘Race to Zero’ initiative.

As the saying goes ‘first do no harm’ – but we’d not be much of a vet if that was all we could manage for our patients, and so it is with our planet. At a time of true ecological crisis, we have so much more to do than ‘no harm’. So, beyond minimising the negative, we intend to make a genuinely positive impact, funding habitat regeneration, promoting biodiversity, and bringing team members and clients along for the ride.

As a truly independent practice, we have complete freedom, to use our imaginations, stretch our ambitions and make a difference. We could achieve so much more with your help.

If that sounds like a vision you want to be a part of or to find out more about our approach to modern veterinary practice, take a look at our careers section on our website :
